Evan and Seth launched their Sativa, Indica and Hybrid Houseplant strains in Canada at the end of 2019. These strains are sold as non-specific, with the explanation that they represent everyday, all day strains to be enjoyed morning, noon and night. We can appreciate that goal, and agree we could smoke it all day long – but being genetics snobs, we wanted to know the strain!
Houseplant Sativa is Chemdawg, a cannabis community staple with a ripe history and pedigree. Weed culture oral history places the birth of Chemdawg in the parking lot of an early 90s Grateful Dead tour concert, where breeders ‘Wonkonobe’ and ‘PBud’ shared their favourite batch of ‘Dog Bud’ (named for the urge to roll over like a dog after smoking) with a diehard customer. He started hanging around throughout the tour, earning the nickname Chemdog for his love of the Dog Bud, and its’ chemical diesel terpene aroma.
After the tour, Wonkonobe sent Chemdog a few ounces of the flower which he bred into the original Chemdawg 91, along with two other phenotypes. Today Chemdawg is responsible for birthing notorious strains like OG Kush and Sour Diesel, and its famous intoxicating aroma is like strapping a lemon car freshener to your face while you pump some gas.
